Game Publishing and Development

G5 develops and publishes casual and social games on iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac, PC, and other platforms. G5’s games are easy to learn, targeted at the widest audience of experienced and novice players, and are family-friendly. The company owns a number of popular casual game franchises like Virtual City®, Supermarket Mania®, Stand O’ Food® and Mahjongg Artifacts®, and works on creating new games and bringing established franchises to new game platforms. G5 is the largest provider of casual Time Management and Hidden Object games on the Apple App Store.

During 2001-2009, before changing its business model to self-publishing, G5 was one of the world’s first and leading mobile game development studios, with the track record of working for the biggest game publishers and developing games based on the most popular brands from TV, movies, and video games. In 2009, G5 Entertainment successfully changed its business model to publisher in order to use opportunities introduced by new gaming platforms and industry shift to digital distribution.

G5’s 80+ international staff comprises of experienced managers, client and server-side programmers, database programmers, UI designers, artists, modelers, game producers, level designers, QA engineers, technical writers. G5 also uses a network of outsourcing partners for additional production tasks. The development process within the company is structured in accordance with G5’s own methodology which improves upon the combination of elements from well-known methods of IT and entertainment industries to create an efficient approach answering to the challenges of mobile specifics, compressed production cycles, uncompromised quality requirements, and creative flexibility.


History

2011

  • G5 develops and publishes such hits as Supermarket Mania 2 and Stand O'Food 3, and partners with tens of successful casual game developers to bring their games to iOS and Android platforms, which become G5's main focus. In July, G5 successfully launches its games on Android Market for the first time, and achieves over 6 million downloads in 3 months. Already the leading publisher of casual games on iOS and Android, the group sets the goal to release one game a week, and is working towards it. G5 also makes move into social freemium games with the release of Virtual City Playground on iOS and Android. The game quickly reaches top chart positions around the world.

2010

  • G5 Entertainment accomplishes the transformation into a cross-platform developer and publisher of casual downloadable games on iPhone, iPad, PC, home and portable consoles. 100% of the group's revenue is the game publishing revenue. During 2010, G5 releases 27 games compared to 9 in 2009. Group's portfolio reaches 44 games. Many of the group's games achieve top chart positions on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, and G5 builds a loyal player following looking for new games from G5.

2009

  • G5 announces plans to release 8 games on the iPhone before the end of Q3 and puts emphasis on the development and publishing of own games for digital distribution.
  • G5 releases Supermarket Mania, Stand O’ Food, Mahjongg Artifacts 1 and 2, Success Story, The Mystery of the Crystal Portal, and Yumsters! 2 for the iPhone.
  • G5 releases Stand O’Food and Mahjongg Artifacts 2 PSP minis.
  • G5 releases Virtual City for PC.
  • Company’s portfolio of published games reaches 20 games for iPhone, PC, and PSP mini platforms.

2008

  • G5 establishes development studio in Kharkiv, Ukraine
  • Sims 2 Castaway (EA), and Hellboy: The Stench of Evil (Konami) mobile games are released, with Saints Row 2 (THQ), Red Faction Guerilla (THQ), and yet unannounced game from EA to be released before the end of the year.
  • Supermarket Mania PC casual game is released on the leading downloadable game portals: Big Fish Games, Playfirst, Oberon, iWin, and many others.
  • G5 acquires 51% in Shape Games Inc., a developer of original PC casual games, including Stand O’Food and Mahjongg Artifacts series.
  • G5 becomes authorized developer for Apple iPhone, Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, and XBox 360 platforms, with the goal to develop high quality downloadable games for all digital distribution platforms, including mobile.
  • The trading in G5 shares has moved from NGM Nordic MTF exchange to Aktietorget www.aktietorget.se exchange in Stockholm

2007

  • In 2006 and 2007, G5 signs development deals with EA Mobile, THQ Wireless, Konami Digital Entertainment, and other publishers, and establishes itself as one of the top mobile game development studios in the world.
  • In 2007, Simpsons: Minutes to Meltdown (EA), Stargate SG-1: Entropy Syndrome (SkyZone), Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back (THQ), Hollywood Star (In-Fusio) games are released.
  • G5 develops a number of innovative mobile marketing applications for top brands.
  • G5 starts the development of Supermarket Mania – its first game in downloadable PC casual format.
  • G5 licenses its MIDS system to Vimpel Communications – Russia’s leading wireless operators with over 60 million subscribers.

2006

  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, and Scarface: The Rise of Tony Montana mobile games are released by Disney Mobile. Pirates game receives “Best Mobile Game 2006” award from Russian Game Developers Conference (KRI).
  • G5 starts Business Solutions operations, developing mobile MMS and E-Mail solutions for SkyLink – Russian CDMA operator.
  • On October 2nd 2006, G5 Entertainment AB is listed on Nordic MTF exchange in Stockholm under trading symbol G5EN. G5 makes decision to concentrate on mobile game development and quit PC CD-ROM game development.

2005

  • G5 starts offering contract mobile game development services to the leading publishers, and signs development deals for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, and Scarface: The Rise of Tony Montana with Disney Mobile.
  • A group of Scandinavian investors acquires a stake in G5.

2003-2004

  • Fight Hard 3D receives “Best Mobile Game 2003” award from Russian Game Developers Conference (KRI).
  • G5 continues development of original games for BREW platform which are released worldwide on the decks of CDMA wireless operators like Verizon Wireless, Alltel, US Cellular, Midwest Wireless, Pelephone, Telstra, and others.
  • G5 further expands the development of PC CD-ROM games and releases a number of games published in Russia by Buka Entertainment and 1C Company, and licensed abroad by companies like Capcom, Atari, and Valusoft.

2002

  • Fight Hard 3D is released in USA on Verizon Wireless. The game is subsequently released on numerous CDMA operators worldwide as BREW platform rolls out, and the game becomes big financial success for young company.
  • G5’s first PC CD-ROM game is released in Russia and is licensed abroad, and G5 expands to develop more games for the growing market.

2001

  • G5 group is founded by Vlad Suglobov, Sergey Shults, and Alexander Tabunov, to develop games for mobile phones and PC.
  • G5 becomes one of the world’s first mobile game developers and starts work on Fight Hard 3D mobile game for promising Qualcomm BREW platform.
  • G5 starts working with Russian publishers Buka Entertainment and 1C Company, and develops its first PC CD-ROM game for Russian market.

G5 Entertainment AB (publ) unites a group of companies: G5 Holdings Limited (Malta), G5 UA Holdings Limited (Malta), G5 Entertainment, Inc. (USA), G5 Holding RUS LLC (Russia), which are wholly-owned subsidiaries of G5 Entertainment AB. G5 Entertainment AB (publ) is listed at Aktietorget www.aktietorget.se exchange in Stockholm since November 19th 2008 under symbol G5EN. During October 2006 - November 2008, shares of G5 Entertainment AB (publ) were listed on NGM Nordic MTF exchange in Stockholm. There are 8.000.000 shares in the company.
